Ned Stranger is really two people trapped in one body. On the one side, he’s a romantic – a polyamorous idealist and lover of conversation, never more comfortable than when dropped in a room of people. On the other, he’s a closet nerd and intellectual – a logical-minded Cambridge law graduate who relaxes by doing the cryptic crosswords.

Originally from England, Ned tasted success with his London-based trio August and After, securing millions of listeners across the world with Official Spotify playlistings and features on BBC Radio and The Independent. In late 2022 he moved to Vienna, building an audience for his solo project with full capacity shows at Kramladen, Sofar Vienna and Sofar Innsbruck.

His indie-folk sound bears hints of classical piano and flamenco guitar, nods to his early years training as a violinist and pianist. Lyrically, he draws on his love of books, exploring a range of broader themes from polyamory and jealousy to nostalgia and political upheaval.

On stage, he is as much a storyteller as a songwriter; his concerts are characteristic for the engaging and humorous banter between songs, so much so that he was invited to perform at Volkstheater’s True Stories night and a TedX Vienna event.
