Rira… a sound is heard tonight,
From behind the kach, where the still waters
Reflect the dark glow of a ruined image,
Drawing it into my eyes.
It seems… someone is singing.
But no—this is not a human voice.
I have heard the mesmerizing order
Of human songs
In the heavy drift of night—
Even heavier than my own sorrows.
And,
I know all the songs of humankind by heart.
One night, in a lonely boat,
They sang so hauntingly
That even now, in my dreams,
I still feel
The majesty of the sea.
